» Benedict Column

The Benedict column, erected on the 11th of September 2006 on the occasion of the Pope's visit to Marktl, was designed by the Eggenfeldener sculptor Joseph Michael Neustifter.

In the design of the column the artist worked closely with the Regensburg philosopher Prof. Ulrich Hommes, who is a friend of both Neustifter and the former theology professor Joseph Ratzinger.
The Benedict column, in the form of a 4.2 meter scroll, is a symbol of Christian Gospel, with references to the works and teachings of Saint Benedict of Nursia.
This column is a wonderful gift to Marktl and was donated by the Lower Bavarian entrepreneur Ulrich Brunner.
